Non Union Salary Freeze
Non Union Salary Freeze: An Alternative Perspective
During the April City Council Meeting, the matter of controlling labour costs was raised; specifically, freezing the pay of non-union City employees.
While controlling labour costs is an action that I, and a number of my fellow Councillors have advocated in order to get our spending under our control, we did not support voting on this matter until the same pay freeze was achieved with Union employees. From our perspective, we have to treat all employees of Toronto fairly and equally.
This matter also highlighted the unfortunate situation that the Mayor refused to ask all Councillors to freeze their salary. The matter of freezing Councillor salaries has repeatedly been raised at Council meetings, but not supported.
